"He called out a warning that he was bringing in a badly wounded man. The battle restarted and I did not see him again until we drove the Chinese out of the Platoon position after dawn. Both of them were dead. He had his arm around his friend where he was half carrying him. Most of his own hand had been blown off and he had his handkerchief wrapped around it. He died helping his mate and warning his friends."
